DAVID & GOLIATH WEAK VS SMALL

DAVID AND GOLIATH The small fighting the large! What is that teaching us? Nowadays we see many instances of this. In this new open information age everyone gets the opportunity of fighting for example injustice, the unethical activities of large companies and governments. Take WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, he believes passionately in his cause, (governments particularly in the US) have tried to stop his activities, which is all about getting the truth out there. Without like minded people he wouldn’t have the material to put out there anyway, so clearly there are many who want to expose the truth. It’s not easy speaking out, just like David and Goliath I’m sure there must have been a nervous moment when David walked out there to send his stone aimed at Goliath’s head. But he won and downed Goliath. But no-one wants to see governments fail, maybe just change their attitudes and be more honest.
Civil rights are one of the pillars on which we build a truly great society, without civil rights we become the slave of others. Yes people have to be strong and stand up for them. JFK & MLK stood for what they believed, yes they did fall at the end, but their legacy lives on and many “small” people stand up for their beliefs and can use the power of the internet to get their message across. Now governments have started to accept that basic human and civil rights are important, here in the US we have such things as the DFPS they protect the weak to the extent as they say “Anyone who thinks a child, or person 65 years or older, or an adult with disabilities is being abused, neglected, or exploited must report it to DFPS. A person who reports abuse in good faith is immune from civil or criminal liability. DFPS keeps the name of the person making the report confidential. Anyone who does not report suspected abuse can be held liable for a misdemeanor or felony”.
The EEOC, “Equal Employment Opportunity Commission” is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person’s race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information. It is also illegal to discriminate against a person because the person complained about discrimination, filed a charge of discrimination, or participated in an employment discrimination investigation or lawsuit.
So yes even governments will help the weak challenge the strong and as the saying goes “the bigger they are the harder they fall”.

FACEBOOK

I wonder how may people know how Facebook started? Mark Zuckerberg  owes everything to a Brit called Tim Berners-Lee, not only him but many of the other icons of the internet do.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Berners-Lee

Sir Timothy John “Tim” Berners-Lee

WHY? Because he invented the internet without which we wouldn’t be connected in our world. So to Facebook, yesterday I decided to give Facebook a rest I’m always on it so today I did other stuff, but turning on the TV and there he is being questioned by the EU in Brussels.

Think about it what would happen if Facebook closed down tomorrow?

Zuckerberg started Facebook when he was in college and was a way he thought would be cool to connect everyone there. Well it has certainly achieved that, he’s made billions just like Bill Gates reputedly the richest many in the world (actually on checking he’s the 2nd richest).

Tim Berners-Lee I’m sure has a modest bank account and I’m sure is quite happy with his lot. So tonight enough from me at least this kept me off Facebook.

Peace and Love to all

WORLD WIDE WEB

Years ago I tried starting to write blogs like anything else its a learning curve and I’m learning new stuff everyday. Someone mentioned something that reminded me of the old post so I wanted to share and update:

CRAZY BRIT IN GOZO NETT WORTH ZERO

SIR TIM NETT WORTH $50m

BILL GATES NETT WORTH $79.4 billion!!

Now I accept that Bill Gates already gives away a lot to Charity, and he’s said that when he pops his clogs everything will go to charity, but that kind of wealth is not only obscene, but compared to the man who gave him his opportunity, it’s more than ironic. (By the way Malta’s GDP was $9.64 billion at the last count). But I’ll bet you one thing I’m probably the wealthiest of them both, not in money but other STUFF.

Someone once said to me that www was another way of saying 666 (the sign of the devil) I laughed at the time, let’s face it without the web we couldn’t survive, we the human race are dependent on it.  I got this from Wikipedia which ironically is only available on the web

Sir Timothy John “Tim” Berners-Lee, OM, KBE, FRS, FREng, FRSA, DFBCS (born 8 June 1955), also known as “TimBL”, is a British computer scientist, best known as the inventor of the World Wide Web. He made a proposal for an information management system in March 1989 and he implemented the first successful communication between a Hypertext Transfer Protocol client and server via the Internet sometime around mid November.

Berners-Lee is the director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which oversees the Web’s continued development. He is also the founder of the World Wide Web Foundation, and is a senior researcher and holder of the Founders Chair at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL).[10] He is a director of the Web Science Research Initiative (WSRI), and a member of the advisory board of the MIT Centre for Collective Intelligence.

In 2004, Berners-Lee was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his pioneering work. In April 2009, he was elected a foreign associate of the United States National Academy of Sciences. He was honoured as the “Inventor of the World Wide Web” during the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, in which he appeared in person, working with a vintage Next Computer at the London Olympic Stadium. He tweeted “This is for everyone”, which instantly was spelled out in LCD lights attached to the chairs of the 80,000 people in the audience.

I’m going to try closing up my laptop for a week to see how that affects me. I’ll have to make sure I’ve paid all my bills before then as bill payment online is essential for me.

THAT WAS THEN BUT TODAY I WANT TO ADD:

It’s quite sad that like other things in  life people/companies like Google Yahoo Microsoft etc are making billions out of what Sir Tim gave us for free. It is the greatest technological leap forward for mankind yet not many people know his name. The Crazy Brit is 4 years his senior and when the CB was 15 his mum asked him would he ‘like to learn about computers’ C.Bs reply “what are computers mum?” Thank god I didn’t know, I wouldn’t want to have B.Gs millstone for… well lets say $79.4 BILLION..think of all those zero’s

Maybe Sir Tim was naive or maybe just another crazy Brit, but as Steve Jobs (Apple another mega company making money off Sir Tim) quoted:

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
